HOWARD COUNTY offers services that support
older adults in their efforts to remain healthy, active
and independent while enabling them to age in
their communities if that is what they choose. The County’s
Office on Aging, part of the Department of Citizen Services,
plans, advocates, develops and coordinates programs for older
adults, their caregivers and family members. The Office on
Aging provides program and referral information for older
adults and adults with disabilities, along with comprehensive
assessments, care management, in-home services, caregiver
support, senior centers and therapeutic social day care.
Offerings include a wide variety of programs and
services including fitness programs, educational
opportunities, art, music, wellness classes and such
recreational activities as games, clubs and more.
The Office on Aging operates six Senior Centers throughout
the county, with a range of offerings, such as nutrition,
therapeutic programs for those who have additional support
needs and a club for those recently diagnosed with dementia.
All centers provide a midday meal for individuals 60 and
over. Membership is free, but registration is required.
Senior housing options are numerous, including independent
apartment communities, assisted living facilities and nursing
homes. The link below provides a list of facilities in the area.
