World-Class Education
THE HOWARDCOUNTY
school system, widely recognized for
its excellence, is a source of tremendous local pride. The county’s
public school system consistently ranks as one of the highest among
the state’s 24 school districts, based on student performance on the
demanding Maryland School Assessment test. Howard County
students score above the national averages on standardized tests,
and more than 92 percent of graduates continue their education
beyond high school. The county is home to numerous college
and university campuses and secondary education opportunities.
Colleges include the award-winning Howard Community College
and satellite campuses for Johns Hopkins University, University
of Maryland Baltimore County, Loyola College of Maryland and
University of Maryland University College. In addition to its
schools, Howard County takes pride in its library system, which
was identified by
Library Journal
as the best library system among
the 21,000 public and academic systems in North America.
