Next time you’re at a musical event,
take a walk around the property to
enjoy the collection – including a
pickup truck mysteriously entwined
in a tree, a genuine Airstream mobile
home that doubles as a bar and
more.
The Lakefront in Columbia
offers art with a water view. Many
outdoor sculptures adorn the
lakefront and surrounding pathway.
At Paint It: Ellicott City! each
July, the scenic vistas and bohemian
charm of Ellicott City serve as
muse to the 40-plus artists taking
over the town for this weekend art
event.
Off the Wall , presented by The
Walters Art Museum, is an open-air
exhibition that brings reproduced
classic paintings to Baltimore’s main
streets and outdoor spaces. Works
are on view at businesses, parks and
community spaces throughout Howard
County.
Second Sundays Artists’ Market
is a monthly artists’ market hosted by
Mat About You Gallery in Old Ellicott
City. The market is held in Lot D the
second Sunday of each month from
April through October.
The Performing Arts
Chesapeake Shakespeare
Company presents Shakespeare
under the stars at the historic ruins of
the Patapsco Female Institute in Old
Ellicott City, a theatre experience like no
other!
At the Spirits of Ellicott City Tour ,
held monthly on the third Thursday,
brave guests embark on a stroll of
18th-century streets. The award-
winning tour takes you into some of
Old Ellicott City’s most haunted pubs,
taverns and shops, accompanied by
a costumed guide who shares chilling
stories.
Outdoor Concerts
and Movies
Merriweather Post Pavilion
presents your favorite stars under
the stars all summer long. Bring
a blanket and relax on the lawn!
Howard County Recreation and
Parks’ Sunset Serenades and
Traveling Bands present summer
concerts June-August. Enjoy the
sounds of summer performed by
local musicians.
The Wine Bin in Old Ellicott City
hosts outdoor summer movies on
Saturday nights June-September.
The Wine Bin offers a wine tasting
before each movie.
The Lakefront Summer Festival, all
summer long at Lake Kittamaqundi
in Columbia, features free outdoor
concerts, movies and dancing.
Festivals
Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival,
held the first full weekend in May each
year, is a free weekend of family fun
and fiber arts at the Howard County
Fairgrounds.
Columbia Festival of the Arts is a
seasonal series of celebrations of the
arts in a broad spectrum of art forms and
cultures, encouraging interaction among
artists and audiences, and featuring local
and national artists. February, April, June
and October.
Howard County Film ‘Feastival’
in July, kicks off Howard County
Summer Restaurant Weeks. Enjoy
local flavors and creative recipes
from your favorite Howard County
restaurants and farms. Enjoy fresh-
from-the-field produce for purchase
along with meats, cheeses and more.

Outdoor Dining
Dining al Fresco Everyone likes to
eat, and there’s nothing better than
eating outdoors when the weather is
fine. Plenty of Howard County’s local
restaurateurs offer dining al fresco.
