Dear Fellow Parents,
Welcome to the 2016 Parent’s Guide presented by Howard County’s
Department of Citizen Services, Office of Children’s Services. As a proud
parent of four wonderful children, Haley, Mary, Robby and James, I
know the resources, support and coordination it takes to raise children
in our busy society and provide them every opportunity for success.
This comprehensive publication for parents and caregivers
provides valuable tools and information to help children of
all ages and abilities to grow, learn, and thrive.
Even in a community such as Howard County, known for its education system
and quality of life, families can encounter challenges along the way and
need to know where to seek help. When that happens, parents can turn to
this guide for useful information on topics ranging from medical and mental
health resources to educational programs and recreational activities.
My wife, Robin, and I are like most parents who have high hopes and
dreams for our children. The Office of Children’s Services’ staff deserves
credit for the work they do to help realize those goals by providing
direct services and support to families with children. They are among
the many reasons our community is such a wonderful place to live.
